The Jesus Chords vs. Log Hog "it's the music" 7"

This record is a three song EP by the Jesus Chords with the other side of the record belonging to a hip hop outfit called Log Hog. The Jesus Chords rely on simple chord structures along the same vein of leathery old country crooners and even early Stones. This leaves plenty of room for their country fried melodies to churn out thick and sweet like home-made butter. The opener, Hollow Head, features a chorus rich with vocal harmonies and even a bit of a whistled interlude while a bright guitar picks along in the background. I Hear Ya Calling swaggers through your livingroom like a drunk headed home after a night of boozing and On the Run has a punchy little outro that makes me wish there just one more track. The vocal treatment really lends a uniqueness to their sound and could be their greatest strength. The Jesus Chords wail on like broken hearted bumpkins and I feel their pain. Overall, this record only provides a taste of what the Jesus Chords can do, but man, it tastes good, going down easy and satisfying just like country gravy.
